A Broken Tea Time

Hello My Favourite Friends

Welcome to

"A Broken Tea Time!"

I was so excited to bring my new Arthur Wood Rose and Ivy Teapot to the cottage and display it with the rest of my Rose and Ivy collection.

I was rushing to load the car with my pretties and accidentally walked into the garage cement wall with the large box.  Crash!  I couldn't stop it from falling.  The sound it made didn't sound good.

Hubby was right there and we opened the box and to my disbelief, my pretty Arthur Wood Rose and Ivy teapot was in pieces!  It was devastating!

Just last week I was mentioning about how lucky it was that my newest teacups had travelled nearly 6000 miles and made it safely to B.C.  And I couldn't even get my teapot into the car.

http://karenscottageandcastle.blogspot.com/2015/04/two-travelling-teacups-for-tea-time.html

Don't worry sweet friends....there was some good news.  The teatpot's lid was perfect and...

So were the matching 6 teacups and saucers!  All were all intact.  Amazing!

I do have a miniature Rose and Ivy Arthur Wood teapot and I am so very grateful for that.

The blooming pink tulips at the cottage helped to cheer my up.

The teapot was a such a fabulous find for $12.99 and I was overjoyed when I found it.  Now I feel guilty that I was so clumsy and didn't wrap it up properly. Poor darling teapot!

So the treasure hunt is on for more roses and ivy.

I was so sad at first but I realize that it isn't the end of the world.... all of my children and family and friends  are safe and healthy!  It really was a very good lesson for me.  I am always rushing around!  I must try to to slow down and be more careful.

Fortunately I have broken very few of my treasured items.

Have you ever broken a favourite treasure?

Thank you my friends for joining me for

"A Broken Tea Time!"

Please, be careful with your treasures!
Karen

  1. Hi Karen, oh I'm so sorry about your exciting new find getting broken, I hate it when that happens but like you said we must always remember what is important in life, like good health for our family and for the other people around us, not a materialistic thing that we so often focus on way too much. Thanks for the reminder.
Take care and have wonderful week, oh and your tulips and teacups are just beautiful!

  2. So sorry about your little accident. Heart breaking I am sure. You have such a beautiful collection of Ivy and Roses. I hope someday soon you will find a replacement for the broken Tea Pot. The matching lamp is a great piece to your collection. They are all so pretty.

  3. Oh so sad, I just hate that for you. It's such a beautiful pattern too. Did you try ebay? Maybe you can find one there? It's always my go-to place for specific collections to complete.

Yes, we all need to slow down. And lordy yes have I broken treasures. Usually my kitchen granite is involved.

    Take care.

  4. So frustrating and heart breaking because you never had the chance to use and enjoy the pretty teapot! I'm glad you are keeping its loss in perspective. It shows how delicate our teaware treasures are.
I broke the lid to my glass teapot in February while taking photos for the blog, but my biggest loss was when my daughter as a toddler broke a Royal Cophenhagen candy dish that I bought in Denmark.
Well, take great delight with your beautiful new teacups and enjoy them. ~Nora

  5. Oh, I can so relate. My beloved great Aunt gifted to me on my wedding a set of "Tumbling Blocks" ice tea set. It had been my own grandmother's who had passed before I was born. I treasured this set for years, then one day while in a hurry, I poured too hot of tea into the pitcher and it broke in my hands. I cried for days. For ten years I have searched every antique shop, thrift store and garage sale in search of a replacement pitcher. Believe it or not, just a month ago I walked into my favorite antique store and they had a perfect match to my pitcher and it was only $15! I was so happy I started crying, the shop owner asked why I was crying and I told her the story. The incredible part is, the shop owner knew my aunt and grandmother over 60 years ago. The world really is a small place.

    1. Oh Jacquie,
What a happy ending for you to find the matching pitcher to your Tumbling Blocks ice tea set! I can understand why you cried tears of joy! I will continue to search for another Arthur Wood Rose and Ivy teapot and may find some other treasures along the way! Karen

  7. When I read this and saw your teapot, my reaction was...awww, so sad. However, it is not the end of the road for sure, Karen. Yes, I accidentally broke one of my wedding crystal goblets and was sad about that, but things happen. You have so many pretty things and I'll bet you'll find a teapot to replace that one.

  8. Hi Karen: I have grandchildren here all the time. They have never broken a thing. I on the other hand have broken so many items, just because I was in a hurry and not being careful. I am so sorry. I know the feeling after a break. The bottom line, they are just things and our family is more important. Have a great week. Be careful! Martha

  10. Oh Karen...so sorry for the breakage! But it does happen in life, doesn't it? But you have a lovely set anyway. And luckily you may be able to find a replacement as that's a pretty recent date. Thanks for linking to Tuesday Cuppa Tea.

  11. I can relate to Martha; my children never broke anything I let them use, it's been me! So sad to break a treasured item; those rose and ivy teacups are beautiful. Well, a reason to do some more treasure hunting! :)

  12. I have been called Queen Klutz because I don't always think before I rush around. I broke a pretty little sugar bowl within moments of buying it at a flea market. I got it home though, glued it up and turned it into a pin cushion.

  13. I'm sorry to hear that your new-to-you teapot was a casualty of your garage cement wall. Perhaps you can use the broken pieces for a mosaic project?

  14. What a shame about the tea pot, I am sorry. And what a lovely pattern it is, I have never seen this before, it is really fresh and pretty.

  15. Oh that is so sad! And you didn't even get to use it one time. A few weeks ago, I was getting ready for a tea for my friends. I was standing on a short ladder rummaging for a serving dish and didn't bother to move the china teacups out of the way. Before I knew it, one of the cups went crashing to the floor. It was part of a set of Royal Doulton English Renaissance that my mother had bought when we lived in England. I was so mad at myself. But I have a friend who does mosaics with broken china, so I gave the pieces to her. It lives on!

    1. Hi Victorian Girl,
What a wonderful idea to make the broken pieces into a china mosaic. The rose and ivy china pattern would indeed look lovely in a mosaic! Sorry to hear about your broken Royal doulton teacup. I get angry at myself too when these things happen! Unfortunately accidents do happen. Pleased to meet you!

  16. So sorry to hear about your teapot! But cheer up, you still got the other pretties! I too broke a very nice piece of souvenir fridge magnet which I collect. I join swaps and trades with other collectors worldwide. When I received a mail from Poland, I was so excited as it would be my first from Poland. But I dropped the envelope and I clearly heard the crash. Along with it, my heart was crashed. I just glued them up together and still hanged it on the fridge.

Saw your wonderful blog from Tuesday Cuppa Tea blog party! Have a nice day!
